What does PCX2ANSI do?
─────────────────────-
PCX2ANSI allows you to convert any 320*200, 256 color PCX image to a
best fit 80*25 full screen ANSI file. I say "best fit" since it is
impossible to convert a 320*200 image with 256 colors to a 80*25
7 color image without some obvious image loss, but the ANSI files that
PCX2ANSI has created have been very good in most cases compared to their
original PCX image and at the very least they provide a good image template
with which to edit using an ANSI file editor.
Running PCX2ANSI
────────────────
The command line parameters for PCX2ANSI are as follows
PCX2ANSI [In_File.PCX] [Out_File.ANS]
where [In_File.PCX] is a valid PC Paintbrush PCX image with a resolution
of 320*200 and a VGA palette of 256 colors. PCX2ANSI will check the
specified PCX to ensure that it meets these requirements. [Out_File.ANS]
is the ANSI file you wish PCX2ANSI to generate. The PCX and ANSI files
given must have extensions (ie PCX, ANS) and can include a full
pathname/directory. Example command line
PCX2ANSI c:\images\pcx\title.pcx c:\ansis\title.ans
After pressing enter to run PCX2ANSI, hit enter 3 times to go through
the color reduction, resolution reduction and ANSI generation stages.
Once the ANSI file has been created it is recommended that you re-save
it within your ANSI editor to ensure it is the smallest filesize
possible, especially if the ANSI is for usage on a BBS system.
